SKLPCC's Annual Dinner & Dance is on Saturday 19th November 2011
The inaugural SKLPCC 7-a-side Cricket Tournament took place on 17-18th September 2011. Congratulations to "Kanbis CC" who won the event by 1 run against Swamibapa CC.
There was plenty of talent on show from within our own community and it goes to
show that we are developing at a quick rate of knots and it is only a matter of
time before we will see our community players stepping into the county circuit
and beyond.
The tournament final was played between 'Kanbi's CC' and
Swamibapa CC. Up to this point, Swamibapa had been the outstanding team in the
tournament, winning all of their group matches and maintaining a 100% record.
However, the 'Kanbi's', had different ideas for the final. They won the
toss and elected to bat. The managed a relatively modest score of 55/2 from
their
5 overs. The game was evenly poised at the halfway stage. Swamibapa
started well, but tight bowling from Kanbi's managed to grab the prized wicket
of Swamibapa's star batsmen, Paresh. It was a uphill battle from here on in.
Swamibapa played exceptionally to give themselves a chance, but needed a massive
24 runs from the final over. They kept their cool and the big hitting opener,
Sailesh managed to hit 18 runs from the first 4 balls! The pressure was now on
the Kanbi's. The next ball went for four and Swamibapa need 2 runs to win from
the last ball. However the Kanbi's did not sit back.
In what can only be
described as a suicidal or genius move by their captain, he bought the field up
to save the one..... Mukesh bowled a good ball outside off stump and no contact
was made by the Swamibapa batsmen. They tried to run through for a single, but a
run out that looked certain was taken at the non strikers end.
Kanbi's
had won the game by a single run!! It was a perfect ending to a highly
competitive weekend. A big congratulations must go to Paresh Kerai from
Swamibapa who was judged to be the outstanding player of the tournament. He had
scored a phenomenal 128 runs from 7 innings and had only been dismissed once.
